Concentrations for B.S.B.A. Students
A great way to customize your College of Business Administration bachelor’s degree is to select up to two concentrations, including our newest concentration in real estate.
- Accounting majors can select one non-Accounting concentration.
- Business Administration majors may select up to two concentrations.

Accounting Concentration
With the Accounting concentration, you’ll gain experience as a tax preparer by participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is part of why UDM students have scored among the highest pass rates in the nation on the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam.
Topics include financial statement analysis, cost accounting systems and planning, federal income taxation and auditing.
(The Accounting concentration is not available for Accounting majors.)
Business Intelligence Concentration
The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) as it applies to business makes the Business Intelligence concentration a very fast-growing and dynamic area of study.
Concentration topics include information systems, data analysis, data warehousing, database management for business, key performance indicators, and business analytics to support decisions and actions.
Business Law Concentration
You can practice contract negotiations and witness actual court trials in person. Qualified students can complete our 3+3 Business Law program: three years as Business Administration undergraduates and three years in law school, earning a bachelor’s degree and a jurisprudence doctorate (J.D.) in six years instead of seven.
Topics in the Business Law concentration include labor law, collective bargaining, and legal aspects of international business, sports, real estate, insurance and human rights.
Decision Sciences Concentration
Learn to use data-based decision making, applying it to some of the most critical issues in business today, including supply chain management.
Topics include business intelligence and analytics, research methods for sports management, sustainable development, e-business, database management for business, supply chain management and project management.
Finance Concentration
Using UDM’s state-of-the-art Financial Markets Lab in our Charlton Center for Responsible Investing, you’ll manage a real portfolio of actual stocks and bonds (the Majestic Fund), publish an investment newsletter (The Long Strategy) and meet with industry professionals from the Investment Advisory Council. Support is available for those seeking the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Topics in the Finance concentration focus on investments, social venture capital and impact investing, corporate finance, management of financial institutions, real estate and global finance.
Human Resources Management Concentration
Our graduates have taken positions as human resources leaders at numerous major firms, including Carhartt, DTE Energy, Michigan Medicine, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Doeren Mayhew and more.
Topics in this concentration include labor relations, collective bargaining, individual and group behavior, and recent issues in human resources management.
International Business Concentration
This concentration is designed for those seeking a global perspective and an ability to interact with colleagues around the world. Our International Studies in Business courses have taken field trips to Italy, Spain, Morocco, Greece, Brazil, Germany, Ireland and many other countries.
Topics in the International Business concentration include accounting, international business law, global sustainable development, global finance, comparative international management and global marketing strategies.
Management Concentration
Our Center for Practice & Research in Management & Ethics (the PRIME Center) brings world-class speakers to campus, like the founder of the U.N. Global Compact and the FBI’s director of counterintelligence. The PRIME Center also sponsors student participation in an annual Sustainability Challenge, and enables you to practice interviewing and study group dynamics. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks UDM among the top Management programs in the nation.
Topics in the Management concentration include individual and group behavior, motivation, decision making and performance, entrepreneurship, organizational strategy and change, international management, organizational leadership, business law and human resources.
Marketing Concentration
With job opportunities in market research, advertising and promotions, sales management and more, UDM graduates have secured positions with IBM, Sports Illustrated, Time Inc., Ford Motor Company, Plante Moran and many others.
Marketing concentration topics include consumer behavior, business research methods, Internet marketing, sports and entertainment marketing, social entrepreneurship, e-business, entrepreneurship, promotion management, channel and retailing management, new product management, marketing ethics and global marketing strategies.
New! Real Estate Concentration
In our newest option, you’ll study real estate with professionals from the industry. The Real Estate concentration is designed for those seeking entry into commercial real estate, property development, property management, real estate investing and related careers. You can join UDM's Real Estate Club and be eligible to compete for external scholarships from the Ferguson Foundation.
Topics in the Real Estate concentration include real property investments, appraisals, risk, rates of return, financing, the law of real estate transactions, sales and leasebacks, tax issues, title insurance, construction loans and shopping center leases.
Social Entrepreneurship Concentration
Through UDM’s Center for Social Entrepreneurship, you’ll interact with local start-ups, and even help decide on the allocation of seed money from our Social Innovation Fund to new business ventures. Our students recently initiated the Entrepreneurship Association, and even launched their own small business, the EA Café. U.S. News & World Report ranks UDM among the top 20 programs in the nation for entrepreneurship.
Topics in the Social Entrepreneurship concentration include social venture capital and impact investing, sustainable development, social intrapreneurship, microfinance, leadership and innovation.
Sports Management Concentration
An attractive program for student athletes and others, our Sports Management concentration will prepare you for a career as a manager, marketer or data analysts in professional sports, the sporting goods industry and more. Our graduates have positions with the Detroit Tigers and other professional sports clubs.
Topics in this concentration include sports law, sports and entertainment marketing and research methods for sports management.
