This micro-credential program uses case studies, role-play and discussion to help leaders navigate sustainability, inequality and complex stakeholder decisions—leaving you with practical tools you can use immediately.

Typical session structure:

  • Surprise activity (sets up the dilemma)
  • Short framing lecture (CST + management lens)
  • Guided discussion of curated readings
  • Break
  • Role-play / simulation + structured decision discussion (participants defend a recommendation)

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain core Catholic Social Teaching principles and the main proposals of Laudato Si’ in management-relevant terms.
  • Evaluate ecological challenges as leadership and governance problems, not just technical issues.
  • Apply CST to decisions affecting poverty, inequality and vulnerable stakeholders.
  • Develop a values-grounded leadership stance rooted in the common good, subsidiarity, solidarity and human dignity.

Participant Deliverables

  • Individual Case Report (1,000–1,200 words): Analyze a real decision using CST principles and propose an implementable action plan.
  • “Letter to Your Younger Self” (1,000–1,200 words): Craft a personal leadership manifesto outlining commitments and guardrails for ethical decision-making.

Instructor

University of Detroit Mercy Professor Diego Arias is the Charles J. Fisher III Chair of Business Ethics. He teaches at the intersection of management, ethics and Catholic Social Teaching, focusing on how leaders translate moral principles into organizational decisions.
