Call for Papers
North Korean Review (NKR), a new referred journal, is published twice annually by McFarland & Company, Inc., Publishers (www.mcfarlandpub.com), in North Carolina. This international and interdisciplinary journal welcomes policy-oriented articles (less than 7,000 words), short papers, commentaries, and cases (less than 3,500 words) on all aspects of North Korea, including North Korean culture, history, economics, businesses, religion, politics, and international relations. If you would like to submit an article for possible publication in NKR, please submit your paper as an email attachment in Microsoft Word to the Editor. Authors will receive an email confirmation when their articles are received. Editorial decisions will be sent to authors no more than 30 days later.
North Korean Review (NKR) will publish short summaries of all books received and complete reviews of selected books. If prospective authors or publishers want to have a summary or a review of a North Korea book published in NKR, please send a complimentary copy of the book to:

Style Guide
- Format: Please format documents double-spaced in Times New Roman 12 point font using Microsoft Word. Please leave generous margins, avoid right-hand justification, and number pages consecutively.
- Title Page: The title page of the manuscript should include the title of your paper, your name, affiliation, address, phone number, fax number, email address, and a one-paragraph abstract of no more than 100 words.
- Headings: NKR uses three levels of headings. Major headings (heading level 1) should be left justified in bold. The first sentence after the heading should be indented. Secondary headings (heading level 2) should be left justified in italic. The first sentence after the heading should be indented. Tertiary headings (heading level 3) should be left justified in italic. The first sentence after the heading should begin on the same line.
- Tables and Figures: Place each table or figure on a separate page at the end of the text. Indicate the position of the table or figure (e.g., Insert Table 1 here) in the text. The page containing the table or figure should be placed after the page of first mention in the text. Authors are responsible for supplying high quality figures and any other kind of illustrative material. These may be sent camera-ready as hard copies ready to scan or provided with the email submission. Please forward all materials to the Editor.
- Endnotes: Use full citation endnotes with no biography or reference list. Endnotes should be brief, used sparingly, and numbered consecutively throughout the text with subscript Arabic Numbers. Please convert all footnotes to the endnote system.
- Biographical Statement: In a separate page, provide a biographical statement of 75 words or fewer to be edited and published in NKR
- One File: Place all components of your paper in the following order in one file: title, abstract, text, endnotes, tables and figures, and biographical statement.
