After earning a B.A. from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Hutchinson worked as a cost analyst and auditor in private industry for several years. He subsequently earned an MBA from Notre Dame and a Ph.D. from the University of Toledo. He taught for two years at Oakland University before coming to the University of Detroit Mercy in 2009. An avid scholar, he has published articles in Advances in Management Accounting, the Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, Management Accounting Quarterly, and other professional journals.
