British Standards Institute (BSI)

BSI's course instructors have extensive training in the disciplines being taught. Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)

The University of Detroit Mercy is an academic affiliate of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). ISACA began in 1967. In 1969, the group formalized, incorporating as the EDP Auditors Association. In 1976 the association formed an education foundation to undertake large-scale research efforts to expand the knowledge and value of the IT governance and control field.

In the three decades since its inception, ISACA has become a pace-setting global organization for information governance, control, security and audit professionals. Its IS auditing and IS control standards are followed by practitioners worldwide. Its research pinpoints professional issues challenging its constituents. Its Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification is recognized globally and has been earned by more than 30,000 professionals. Its new Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification uniquely targets the information security management audience. It publishes a leading technical journal in the information control field, the Information Systems Control Journal. It hosts a series of international conferences focusing on both technical and managerial topics pertinent to the IS assurance, control, security and IT governance professions. Together, ISACA and its affiliated IT Governance Institute lead the information technology control community and serve its practitioners by providing the elements needed by IT professionals in an ever-changing worldwide environment.

Professional Associations

Information Assurance Professionals Association (IAPA)

The University of Detroit Mercy sponsors the Information Assurance Professionals Association (IAPA).. The primary goal of the IAPA is to promote practices that will ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of organizational information resources.

The IAPA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the education of and help expand the knowledge and skills of its members in those fields relating to information assurance systems. Monthly meetings are held to promote the exchange of information assurance techniques, approaches, and professional best practices.

IAPA was founded in 2003 by a dedicated group of professionally certified Information Assurance professionals. They have close ties with the National Standards Registry Board (NSRB), which was established by the International Standards Institution of Governors (ISIG) to foster worldwide information systems security principles and to support professionals responsible for performing that work.

IAPA's vision is to be the premier national organization for promoting the positive professional growth of persons interested in the field of information assurance.

National Standards Registry Board (NSRB)

The NSRB was established by the International Standards Institution of Governors (ISIG) to foster worldwide information systems security principles and to support professionals responsible for performing that work.

The purpose of the NSRB is to grant individual and corporate certifications of these principles. As such, the role of the NSRB is to authenticate those practices that continuously ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.

The NSRB accomplishes this through education and accreditation programs, founded on an authoritative and globally recognized common body of knowledge. Practically the NSRB underwrites the granting of these credentials as well as their registry with the Governing Body.
