Romero J.S. Tavares

Romero J.S. Tavares is the Head E&Y's Corporate Tax Advisory practice in Brazil, and Tax Market Leader for E&Y in South America. Romero is an attorney-at-law registered with the São Paulo Section of the Brazilian Bar Association, holds a Master's Degree in International Business from the University of Detroit Mercy, and attended postgraduate courses in US and International Tax Law at Wayne State University and Harvard Law School. Over the last 14 years in tax consulting, Romero Tavares served over one hundred of the top U.S., European and Asian multinationals, of diverse industries yet more particularly in the automotive, consumer products, and pharmaceutical industries, in respect to direct investments in Brazil (direct and indirect taxes, foreign exchange controls and foreign investment regulations, regional customs advisory services, and cross-border tax planning), and participated actively in the structuring or reorganization of major investments in Brazil and Latin America.

Over the last four years with Ernst & Young in São Paulo, Romero has become a preferred tax advisor in Latin America for Johnson & Johnson, and in Brazil for General Electric, Procter & Gamble and Volkswagen, to name a few. Romero Tavares worked for over six years in the Detroit offices of Deloitte & Touche, and for nearly three years in their São Paulo offices as the Head of International Tax Services. A published author and frequent speaker at major international events, Romero Tavares' was named a preferred tax advisor in Latin America by International Tax Review in 2004.
