CBA Honors and Awards
Academic year 2004-05 was a very successful one for the College of Business Administration. This page presents highlights of our efforts to continuously improve on our commitments to excellence in education, student centered learning, our Catholic identity, and our urban focus.
Honors Students
- This year 40 students received special recognition at Honors Convocaton. In addition, 7 freshmen, 7 sophomores, 10 juniors, and 37 seniors received the Dean's Honor Certificate.
- 7 students were inducted in to Beta Alpha Psi, while Beta Gamma Sigma inducted 11 students and Alpha Iota Delta, 5.
- Our graduates continue to be successful in gaining employment with major firms such as Plante & Moran and DaimlerChrysler.
- Once again, the Beta of Michigan Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was named a premier chapter. The Chapter's Certificate of Award was presented to the College at the AACSB Mid-Continent East Meeting in October, 2005.
Faculty
- Our faculty commitment to scholarship and teaching excellence continued. Intellectual contributions included various journal publications, refereed proceedings, conference presentations as well as books and book chapters.. Additionally, the faculty continued its active participation in public service.
- We are very proud that two members of our faculty, Fr. Gerald Cavanagh and Fr. Ozzie Mascarenhas, each celebrated at least fifty years as a member of the Society of Jesus during 2004-05.
Global Education
- Dr. Daniel Shoemaker and Dr. Michael Whitty led two groups of students for programs in England dealing with International Standards in Information Assurance as well as International Business.
- Fr. Ozzie Mascarenhas traveled to Taiwan to teach Strategic Marketing to students in the Global Entrepreneurial MBA (GEMBA) Program offered jointly by Fu Jen Catholic University of Taiwan and the University of Detroit Mercy.
- A second cohort of students was admitted into the GEMBA Program this Fall. This second cohort visited Detroit from January 28 through February 11, 2006.
- This Fall also marked the first cohort of undergraduate students from Wu Han University in mainland China under an agreement developed with Wu Han in 2004. Additional students will be coming from Wu Han in January, 2006.
- Dr. Ali Ozbeki also traveled to Taiwan to instruct the GEMBA students in the intricacies of Corporate Financial Strategy.
As we look to the future, the College of Business Administration remains committed to providing the excellent, student-centered, Catholic education that has produced generations of successful business leaders.
